As we approach the end of the financial year on June 30th, it's a great time to assess your dental needs and determine if you've made the most of your dental benefits over the last year. Most dental insurance plans have an annual benefits limit, so it's a good idea to complete any needed treatment before the end of the financial year if you haven't already done so. Here's what you should know about maximising dental benefits.

A Brief Overview of Dental Insurance

If your dental benefits run on a fiscal year calendar, your plan ends on June 30th and starts on July 1st. This means you'll lose any unused benefits from the previous year once the new year begins. Most plans cover preventive dental care, so it's wise to protect your dental health by attending bi-annual appointments.

So, if you haven't had your two preventive teeth cleans and checks for the year, now is a great time to arrange those bookings. If you have any diagnosed treatment you've been waiting on, this is also the perfect time to ensure you claim your full dental benefit. Being proactive about completing needed treatment can also save you time and money in the long term.

A Focus on Prevention

Routine teeth cleanings and check-ups are essential because they can prevent more serious problems from developing. For example, when our dentists spot problems like tooth decay or gum disease in their earliest stages, you can be proactive about treating them when they are less costly and less invasive.

If tooth decay is not treated immediately, it will progress further into the tooth until it reaches the nerve or pulp, which can cause a painful infection that requires root canal treatment to resolve.
