Preventive Dentistry at Northland Dental Clinic

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

This old proverb holds true for many things in life, including your family’s dental care. The Northland Dental Clinic team are passionate about providing dentistry with minimal intervention and focus on early detection, education and prevention. By stopping larger problems from arising, you won’t require extensive treatment further down the road.

We’ll talk to you about using diet, oral hygiene habits and regular checkups and cleanings to prevent oral health concerns. Sometimes, you may not be aware that a problem is arising until you feel pain or sensitivity. By that time, the disease may already be advanced. Detecting issues early allow us to tailor a treatment plan to manage your needs.

Checkups and Cleanings

Six-monthly oral health checkups allow our dental professionals to make sure that your teeth and surrounding structures are in top shape. A thorough scale and clean removes any plaque build up which helps prevent dental problems in the future, including cavities and gum disease. Removing plaque also helps your breath stay fresh and ensures your smile stays bright and healthy!

Children’s Dentistry

Children usually get their first tooth around 6 months of age. It’s important for them to start brushing and get regular dental checks early. We recommend their first visit be when they’re around 18 months old. We’ll make sure they see dental visits as an enjoyable experience and instill hygiene habits in them from a young age, giving them the best chance at great oral health for life.

Fissure Sealants

Over time, the deep grooves, or fissures, in molars can catch plaque bacteria and eventually lead to cavities. A sealant helps prevent bacteria from settling deep in a fissure, which stops a tooth from beginning to decay.

Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride is a mineral that strengths tooth enamel, making them more resistant to plaque. Fluoride can also reverse early decay!

Custom-created mouthguards are made from molds of your teeth and designed based on the sport you participate in. Children and adults alike can protect their teeth from trauma with this comfortable device that allows regular breathing and speaking.
